No prosecutor has been or will be influenced in trying cases by statements made by persons holding senior public office. No prosecutor of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office will be influenced by external factors, the capital prosecutor's office said in a statement.
The professional organisation Union of Judges in Bulgaria called on the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to immediately remove Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev, his deputy Borislav Sarafov and the deputy head of the National Investigative Service Yassen Todorov. The Judicial Association states that this will ensure an objective, comprehensive and complete investigation of the facts and circumstances of the proceedings already initiated for their early removal from office.
The union then calls on all members of the SJC to resign immediately as they are responsible for the appointment of Geshev, Sarafov and Todorov.
