The Russian embassy in Sofia has sent a note of protest to the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry regarding “encroachments” on Soviet monuments in the country, and has demanded that such incidents be investigated and the culprits – held to account.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that in the period from 12 to 14 May, the common graves of the Red Army in Bankya and in Sofia’s residential area Lozenets, as well as the monument to the Soviet soldiers in Burgas had been “desecrated”.
