At a press conference, Geshev pointed out that he would talk at a closed-door meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council's Plenum, in order "to preserve the prestige of the judiciary. Earlier today, Geshev gave explanations to an overseeing prosecutor at the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office in the course of an investigation into a report filed against him by Borislav Sarafov. Geshev described the signals against him as an “attack against the state and its normal functioning” and added that the “omnipotence of the Prosecutor General is a myth”.

Ivan Geshev also said that he was subject to a media attack after the assassination attempt and was placed in a situation to explain why he was not killed. He stressed that he could not have violated his official duties as he was on a business trip in the days after the attack and the functions of the prosecutor general were performed by his deputy Borislav Sarafov. Geshev also pointed out that he had never intended to resign and that the actions against him were an attack on the Bulgarian judicial system.
