The Sofia City Prosecutor’s Office has submitted a request to the prosecutor general to demand that a former minister, now member of the 49th National Assembly with initials D. D. be stripped of his immunity.

The request is being made in connection with ongoing pre-trial proceedings for an alleged crime committed by the MP in question – massive dereliction of duty. The information provided makes it clear that the MP in question is Delyan Dobrev from GERB who has, according to the prosecutor’s office, caused damage to the National Electricity Company amounting to over EUR 4.5 million. The charges are that while he was energy minister, Dobrev failed to exercise control over the work of the Bulgarian Energy Holding, and that the parliamentary decision from 2012 for halting the Belene NPP project has not been observed.
