Purja is notable for having climbed all 14 eight-thousanders (peaks above 8,000 metres) in a record time of 6 months and 6 days, improving by far the previous record of 7 years, 6 months and 6 days. He was also the first person to have reached the summits of Mount Everest, Lhotse and Makalu within 48 hours, and in 2021, along with a team of nine other Nepalese mountaineers, he completed the first-ever winter ascent of K2.
