Prosecutor’s office proposes the withdrawal of parliamentary immunity of GERB leader, Boyko Borissov says he will not relinquish it himself

The Sofia city prosecutor’s office has proposed, to the prosecutor general, to approach parliament to lift the immunity of GERB leader Boyko Borissov, former PM, now MP, over what is known as Barcelonagate.

According to the supervising prosecutor, evidence has been collected of money laundering by Boyko Borissov, who, as former prime minister, has handed money, derived from criminal activity, over to third parties for the purchase of real estate abroad.

“I was without immunity for two years. Now, I will definitely not relinquish it myself, because you have to be blind to not see what is happening at the moment,” Boyko Borissov said in parliament. 

“Justice must not be used as a bludgeon,” We Continue the Change co-chair Kiril Petkov told reporters in a comment on the matter, as he joined last night’s large-scale protest against President Rumen Radev in Sofia. The protest  was "for a Bulgaria as a parliamentary republic, and a member of the EU and NATO". 


Vazrazhdane party leader Kostadin Kodstadinov urged Boyko Borissov to relinquish his immunity himself. MPs from the Bulgarian Socialist Pasrty and There Is Such a People stated they support the lifting of Borissov's immunity.
