Left-wing organizations such as “Bulgaria out of EU and NATO”, MIR and BROD, organized a protest in front of parliament building to demand that the second mandate for the formation of a government be handed back unfulfilled.
The event, attended by a handful of people, and announced on social media as a “protest for sovereignty and law in Bulgaria”, comes in response to the large-scale civil protest organized in Sofia last night.
A large protest against President Rumen Radev, and for Bulgaria’s future as part of the EU and NATO was held in front of the presidency last night, followed by a procession to parliament building. The protesters called for the impeachment of President Radev and shouted “This is not Moscow”.
The protest expressed support for the coalition We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria, which received the second mandate for the formation of a government, and stated firmly that the country is a parliamentary republic, and a member of the EU and NATO.
Emotions ran high at the opening of today’s sitting of the National Assembly as well. In a declaration, Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov urged the coalition We Continue the Change/Democratic Bulgaria to hand the mandate for the formation of a cabinet back immediately, and called for the coalition to be banned as a threat to national security. We Continue the Change MP Miroslav Ivanov described his words as “fascist propaganda”.
