The mechanism for investigating the prosecutor general to be promulgated on June 2

Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov

Caretaker Minister of Justice Krum Zarkov announced on Facebook that he had put the state seal on President Rumen Radev's decree for the promulgation in State Gazette of the law amending the Criminal Procedure Code, introducing a mechanism for investigating the prosecutor general. The amendments were adopted by the National Assembly on May 26.

The revision reduces the majority at the 25-member Supreme Judicial Council required for the appointment and dismissal of a prosecutor general from 17 to 13 votes. The amendments will be promulgated in State Gazette on June 2 and will enter into force three days after their promulgation. Within three months, the National Assembly and the judiciary must start a procedure for the election of new members of the Supreme Judicial Council.
