Doctors insist that the limit on the number of referrals be dropped

The Bulgarian Medical Association will insist on a new three-year framework contract with the Health Insurance Fund for 2023-2025, but under certain parameters. This was decided at a meeting of the association in Sofia.

One of the demands is lifting the limit on the number of referrals that general practitioners can issue to chronically ill patients for follow-up of their condition with a specialist.

Some of the other changes are: that GPs should not be obliged to disclose their personal mobile phone number, but should provide a phone number to the practice; that the requirement for doctors who see patients in hospitals to have a specialty should be abolished; that resident doctors should be able to carry out treatment activities as contractors under the supervision of a specialist.
