The first motion for early release of Prosecutor General was dropped

The procedure for early termination of the mandate of the prosecutor general was suspended at the Supreme Judicial court. The decision was taken after a four-hour debate, during which members of the Supreme Judicial Council complained of pressure through prosecutorial inspections. Against the suspension was the Prosecutor General himself

The members of the Supreme Judicial court will continue with the discussion of the second request to remove Geshev from the post.

According to Professor Plamen Kirov, Head of the Department of Constitutional and Legal Studies at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ochridsky", the withdrawal of the first proposal for the early termination of the mandate of the Prosecutor General is aimed at achieving a quick result, i.e. a faster release of Ivan Geshev.

Prof. Kirov explained to BNR that when the first motion is withdrawn, the ground is cleared for the second charge against Geshev to be voted very quickly. The first one - according to which Geshev allegedly interfered in the investigation into the so-called bomb attack attempt against him - implies collecting evidence and hearing witnesses, which could take months. The second claim is about Ivan Geshev, saying that there are "political scumbags" in parliament.
