Veliko Tarnovo hosts International Festival of Historical Reenactments

Tsarevets fortress in Veliko Tarnovo was transformed into a stage for medieval events, as part of the International Festival of Historical Reenactments “Medieval Tarnovgrad” from 8 to 11 June.

The programme includes 170 different events presenting the life, military skills and arts of the Middle Ages, as well as concerts, theatrical performances, a fashion show and demonstrations. The motto this year is “The village king – the ascension”, and is dedicated to Ivaylo, ruler of Medieval Bulgaria. The participants from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Serbia and Turkey will make demonstrations of the cuisine, arts and crafts, and military skills in Bulgaria, Byzantium and Europe in the period from the 12th to the 14th century.
