The average montly pension in Bulgaria is EUR 380, National Social Security Institute data show

Pensioners in Bulgaria receive an average of EUR 380 a month, indicate National Social Security Institute data. In Sofia, this sum us around EUR 445 on average, in Kurdzhali and Razgrad – EUR 300. According to latest data from the first quarter of 2023, men in Bulgaria receive higher pensions than women – an average of EUR 415 a month for men and EUR 355 for women.

At the end of the first quarter of the year, pensioners in this country numbered 2.029 million, more than half a million of them with pensions below the minimum monthly pension of EUR 230 a month, and 416,000 – with pensions within the range between the minimum and EUR 300. Just 2,184 people have pensions ranging between EUR 1,500 and 1,700 a month, and 341 – pensions over the EUR 1,700 ceiling. By law, the ceiling does not apply to persons who have occupied the position of president and vice president of the Republic of Bulgaria, president of the National Assembly, prime minister or Constitutional Court judge.
