Bulgaria must prioritize reforming its security services and removing Moscow-backed agents if it hopes to succeed in its ambitious plans to root out organized crime and corruption. This was what Kiril Petkov, co-chairman of "We Continue the Change" said in interview with "Politico".
The first step is to change the law so that the heads of the individual services are appointed by the parliament and not by the president. As a second step, Petkov wants to check all employees in the security apparatus through "integrity and ethical tests". “When we got in the fight of corruption we never knew that we’re going to directly fight Moscow, but it turns out it’s one and the same fight.” the politician said.
