The towns of Belene and Nikopol host the first regional destination of the Dunav (Danube) Ultra cycle route - "Persina by Bike". The event will take place on July 1 and includes a cycling tour along a scenic historical route connecting the two towns on the Danube river, BTA news agency reports.
Participants will be divided into two categories: 'Racing' and 'Hobby'. The first group will be cycling for time, while the hobby cyclists will have fun negotiating the course using a mobile app, following pre-marked checkpoints.
On the day of the event, a special entertainment zone will be set up on the bank of the Danube. In addition, the organizers have prepared fun activities such as a fishing boat safari around the island of Persin, a visit to the so-called Bulgarian Maldives around Nikopol, a kayaking adventure and bird watching. There will be lots of entertainment, music, raffles and a DJ party.
"Persina by Bike" is part of the series of events on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Dunav Ultra route. It is organized with the financial support of the municipalities of Belene and Nikopol and the America for Bulgaria Foundation.
The traditional mass bicycle ride along the Dunav Ultra route will start on September 5 from Vidin. The cyclists will ride over 700 km on scenic stretches along the Danube River to the Black Sea coast at Durankulak. Last year there was a record number of participants - over 160 from Bulgaria and Romania, and a record number of partner municipalities - 12.
