“We are developing a new national defence strategy,” said Deputy Minister of Defence Atanas Zapryanov at a forum on the vision of Bulgaria’s foreign policy strategy, taking place at Europe House in Sofia, organized by the Foreign Ministry’s Diplomatic Institute. “The strategic environment is new, that is why Bulgaria needs to upgrade its basic concept,” Deputy Minister Zapryanov said.

“A foreign policy concept, such as Bulgaria has never had needs to be developed and endorsed at a national level, with a maximum of public support,” said on his part Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tihomir Stoytchev. “Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine has destroyed security in Europe, constructed by diplomatic effort over many years, and has disrupted the international legal order,” he added.
