Kozloduy NPP is to have two more blocks, PM Denkov says

“Constructiing units 7 and 8 of the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant is now part of the cabinet’s plans,” said PM Nikolay Denkov during a live stream on Facebook from the Council of Ministers, during which he answered questions by journalists and members of the public.

In his words, the Belene NPP project is absolutely baseless, and there is no need to look for four more blocks. At the beginning of the year, Energy Minister in the caretaker cabinet Rosen Hristov stated that four nuclear reactors should be built – two for Kozloduy NPP and two for the Belene NPP project.

“There are no such needs in the regions, what we need to do is stabilize the system with the necessary basic capacities, and develop all technologies,” the Bulgarian prime minister said.

Nikolay Denkov also stated that Bulgaria’s gas supply until the end of the year has been provided, and that negotiations are to be held with Azerbaijan on increasing gas supply volumes. Work on the Burgas–Alexandroupoli gas pipeline continues, he added.
