To attain its goals in the European countries, Russia has continued to use a vast array of hybrid tools. This is one of the principal conclusions in the 2022 annual report by the State Intelligence Agency (SIA). The report emphasizes that out of all European countries, the war in Ukraine has affected Bulgaria most.

“The Russian aggression against Ukraine has created new and serious challenges and has slowed the recovery of the global economy from the Covid-19 pandemic,” the report reads. According to the SIA, the surge in prices and the risk of shortages of energy resources, raw materials and food, as well as the disruption of supply chains, have boosted the inflation pressure and have slowed economic growth worldwide. One more challenge the European countries have had to face is providing alternatives to the Russian oil and natural gas supplies.

Another conclusion formulated in the report is that the EU and NATO have preserved their role as major factors of stability globally as well as regionally.
