In a statement from the parliamentary rostrum, the BSP for Bulgaria demanded an urgent hearing in parliament of Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov. The premier is to clarify "what he said in Vilnius, what commitments were made and what from now on Bulgaria should provide in terms of armaments," the declaration reads. "Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov at the NATO meeting in Vilnius turned out to be a supporter of cluster bombs," it further states.

In an interview with Sky News in Vilnius on 11 July, Denkov said Bulgaria was against the supply and use of cluster bombs by Ukraine, but Russia was not a signatory to the treaty against this type of munitions. "We are in a full-scale war. When you are fighting a war, treaties are important, but it is even more important to have success on the battlefield... The fact that Russia has not signed the treaty means that it accepts that these munitions can be used," the prime minister told Sky News.
