One of the established music festivals in the sea capital - the International Jazz Festival Varna Summer - will hold its 32nd edition at the end of the week. Anatoly Vapirov, the founder of the festival in 1992, has selected this year's participants. The three festival evenings from 28 to 30 July will feature performers from Austria (Life Aquatic Quartet), Italy (Francesco Bearzatti Trio), an international formation from Austria and Bulgaria (Schmid/Donchev/Breinschmid), and the Vasil Spasov Trio. The opening is on 28 July with two concerts of famous Bulgarian artists - Alexander Logozarov Trio and Montuno-BG.
All the participants are very enthusiastic about the concert, they all want to contribute to the cause of saving the Varna Summer Jazz Festival," say the organizers and add: "Let's show that together we are stronger than the odds and that the Bulgarian intelligentsia is alive, and as a reward we will enjoy quality jazz from wonderful performers who continue a beautiful tradition in our beloved Varna."
At the opening of Varna Summer (July 28) the quintet Montuno-BG will present compositions from their first album My Burning Heart, as well as from their upcoming album Seven. The composer is the founder of Montuno-BG Krassi Jeliazkov, known for his ethno and world music recordings. In his new compositions he mixes the sound of Montuno-BG with choral samples.
