Bulgarian climber Silvia Azdreeva conquered K2 – the world’s second highest peak, the company organizing the expedition has announced. Azdreeva is now the first Bulgarian woman to have scaled a 8,611 m. peak.

The 37-year old Bulgarian climber is now on her way down to base camp. A year ago she climbed eight-thousanders Everest and Lhotse.

Two other Bulgarian climbers have successfully climbed K2 – zoologist Boyan Petrov and lawyer Stefan Stefanov. Another two – Petar Unzhiev and Atanas Skatov lost their lives trying.
