Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case of the pollution of the Devinska River, which is being monitored by the District Prosecutor's Office in Smolyan, the Appellate Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv said.

The pollution was caused by an unregulated discharge of wastewater by the bottling company Devin EAD, which was issued a violation report. According to Ekaterina Gadzeva, director of the Regional Inspectorate of Environmental Protection - Smolyan, the prosecutor's office will demand the maximum penalty.

In addition, the bottling company is obliged to stock the fish with its own funds, according to a donation contract signed with the local association of hunters and fishermen in Devin. A total of about 300 kg of fish will be released into the waters of the Devinska River, with the first stocking on 8 August of about 120 kg of Balkan trout, the mayor of Devin said.
