Bulgaria's maize and sunflower crops hit by bad weather

Photo: Agro tv

The spring crops - maize and sunflower - in most parts of the country is poor, and in some places even alarming, reports BNR correspondent in Dobrich Maya Shcherbanova. Farmers' forecasts are for extremely low yields, close to those of the critical year 2020.

The reason is the weather conditions in recent months - lack of rainfall and extremely high temperatures accompanied by strong southerly winds. Another problem is market uncertainty and the prices of agricultural produce on the market.

District agricultural administrations are overwheled with requests for checks from producers affected by the adverse weather conditions.
