The Varna Biennial is not only the largest on the Balkan Peninsula, but also one of the world´s longest running. Its more than 40-year history ranks it among the most prestigious events showcasing global and Bulgarian trends in graphic art. Out of nearly 623 foreign graphic works submitted by 390 artists, 210 artists have been selected to participate this year, while the Bulgarian representation includes 114 artists with a total of 158 works.

Thai artists set their own record in terms of the youngest participants. More works than usual came from neighbouring North Macedonia. "This proves that the Varna Biennial is a sought-after forum by artists in different countries, it's authority growing with each subsequent edition," Ventseslav Antonov, director of the Varna Graphic Art Gallery says. We are glad that the Bulgarian turnout is definitely the best in many years".

The forum is hosted in the halls of the Boris Georgiev City Art Gallery.
