The only surviving icon from the ancient church St. Nicholas Miracle Worker in Dolni Rakovets village near Radomir – the icon of the Holy Virgin with Infant – will be put on display in the church as of today until 15 August, the church board has announced.
For a seventh year, the icon painted by Zograph Dimitar in 1850 will be temporarily returned to the church on the occasion of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Though it belongs to the church in the village, the icon is kept at the Regional Museum of History in Pernik. The church itself is thought to have been built in the 15-16 century. In the 20th century it was declared a monument of culture of local significance, and is now undergoing restoration during which unique frescoes have been revealed.
