More than 145 kg of marijuana were found in a truck during a joint inspection by border police and customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo checkpoint on the Bulgarian border with Turkey, the Ministry of the Interior announced today.

The case dates back to August 10, when a tractor with a semi-trailer with Romanian registration arrived at the checkpoint in the direction of Turkey. The driver, an Austrian citizen, presented to the customs officers documents for powder preparations for the chemical industry from Western Europe through Bulgaria to Turkey.

During the inspection, 5 bags and 9 boxes with the narcotic substance worth 2,321,760 BGN /1,187,097 euros/ were found.

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated in the case.
