Tsanko Tsankov to take part in Santa Catalina-Los Angeles open-water swim marathon

At the end of August, Tsanko Tsankov, the only Bulgarian to have swum the Strait of Gibraltar, will take part in one of the seven most difficult open-water swimming marathons in the world – from Santa Catalina Island to the shores of Los Angeles in California, or as the swimmer says 36 kilometres as the crow flies. The strong currents, which cannot be predicted, the low temperature of the water in the Pacific – the biggest and coldest ocean in the world – are going to be the biggest challenges. “But what makes this marathon unique is that it takes place during the night which disorients the swimmer, so that there comes a time when he doesn’t know where the earth and where the sky is,” Tsanko Tsankov said in an interview with Radio Burgas, BNR.
