The National Service for Protection has provided security for five high-ranking Bulgarian politicians due to threats by foreign services, the BNR has learned from its sources. According to the BNR's sources, the threats are by Russian services and those linked to Russia. The alert was received last week. The Inter-Ministerial Committee comprising the head of the National Service for Protection, the chairman of State Agency for National Security and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, decided to provide security for them.
The co-chairman of the Parliamentary group of “We Continue the Change-Democratic Bulgaria” (PP-DB) Kiril Petkov confirmed that he was provided with security, without giving more information. The other co-chairman of the Parliamentary group of PP-DB and leader of “Democrats for a Strong Bulgaria” Atanas Atanasov declined to comment.
“Yes Bulgaria!” said that its party leader Hristo Ivanov, who is among the persons threatened, does not have guards for now. The National Service for Protection declined to comment on the issue on the grounds that it was classified information.
