More than 210 thousand speeding violations have been detected by the Traffic Police in Sofia since the beginning of the year. In the first eight months of 2023, 680 drivers were found to be driving under the influence of drugs and 730 drivers have tested positive for alcohol. This was announced by traffic police Chief Inspector Nikolay Krusharski.

A protest against war on the roads is planned for tonight in front of the Interior Ministry building demanding adequate measures against the offending drivers.
The protest was triggered by the death of a 15-year-old boy, who was killed on a pedestrian crossing in the centre of Sofia over the weekend by a driver with more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his blood, driving at a speed of more than 70 km/h.
