The Industry, Research, Energy and Culture Committees of the European Parliament heard Iliana Ivanova, the Bulgarian candidate for Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.

Ivanova has been nominated to replace Maria Gabriel, who resigned on 15 May to take up the post of Bulgaria's deputy prime minister and foreign minister. For almost three hours, Ivanova answered MEPs' questions, including those not related to her portfolio.

After the presentation, Ivanova's candidacy was assessed as "very strong" and she is expected to be put to a vote at a European Parliament meeting next week.
