500 buildings are to become part of the cultural heritage of Bulgaria, with nearly 40% of them being new proposals for inclusion in the List of Immovable Cultural Heritage, shows a stage of the Territorial Program of the National Institute of Immovable Cultural Heritage, held in Plovdiv, Old Nessebar, Banya and the villages of Svezhen and Skortsite.
Presented data show that about 10% of the architectural samples studied in the five settlements are irreversibly destroyed, 35% are in a state of emergency, just 15% are in good condition with preserved authenticity, and 40% are in good condition but with changed historical appearance. Hundreds of valuable buildings from the first half of the 20th century have not been studied yet.
The list of immovable cultural heritage has not been updated for over 30 years. At the moment, there are nearly 40,000 sites in it, but the information about their status is not up to date. One of the conclusions of the experts is that there is a lack of comprehensive concepts for the protection of cultural heritage on the territory of the municipalities.
