Fifty servicemen have been deployed to the Bulgarian-Turkish border to support 300 of their colleagues in response to a possible refugee wave as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, Military Minister Todor Tagarev said. "The army is helping to secure our border. If necessary, we will send more in short order," he added.

According to the minister, the expected migrant pressure will not hamper Bulgaria's entry into Schengen. He said everyone understood the current situation and the conditions under which Bulgaria had to secure its border.

Todor Tagarev also said that NATO is not planning an operation in support of Israel.
