Several countries are involved in the case of more than 50kg of cocaine seized from a car with diplomatic plates at the Bulgarian-Turkish border, according to Stefan Bakalov, head of the Customs Agency's anti-narcotics department.

Yesterday, customs officers at the Kapikule border crossing seized nearly 55kg of cocaine from a car belonging to the embassy of a South American country in Sofia. According to Anadolu Agency, the car came from Bulgaria's Kapitan Andreevo border post.

Stefan Bakalov said it was not the first time drugs had been found in a diplomatic car.

In recent months alone, customs officials have seized nearly 5 tonnes of various drugs.
