The veto that President Rumen Radev imposed on changes to the Energy Act has been rejected by the National Assembly. This happened with the votes of 133 MPs from GERB-SDS, PP-DB and DPS. 49 MPs from "Vazrazhdane", BSP and ITN voted in support of the veto. The veto was imposed by the head of state due to his disagreement with the introduction of full liberalization on the electricity market for household consumers without clear mechanisms on how the poor will be compensated.
According to the president, the models that are currently offered do not cover all vulnerable groups of the population.
"There are imperfections in this law, we are all aware of that. But its application starts July 1, 2024. We have 8 months to make the necessary changes," Delyan Dobrev from GERB-SDS commented.
