The Second National Meeting of the Association "Distilled in Bulgaria" is being held in Sofia. The association represents more than half of essential oil producers in Bulgaria.

The chairman of the association, Plamen Nikolov, told BNR that they are "a very developed branch that brings profits, employs people and is very active in small settlements".

The famous Bulgarian rose is only a small part of the essential oil crops and extracts produced. Bulgaria is the largest distiller of lavender in the world. Lemon balm, savory, chamomile, yarrow are also processed, with the main exports being to the USA, Europe and the Far East.

"Our industry is clean. We only work with water and steam," Nikolov pointed out and emphasized that the association insists on the adoption of a law on essential oils to guarantee their purity and safety.
