Professor Georgi Valchev is the new rector of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski"

Professor Georgi Valchev from the Faculty of Philosophy of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is the new, 57th rector of the oldest university in Bulgaria. He was elected in a runoff with Academician Nikolay Vitanov from the Faculty of Physics. 198 of the delegates to the General Assembly voted for Professor Valchev, and 152 for Academician Vitanov. In 1988, Georgi Valchev graduated from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” with a master’s degree in history, with a second major in ''Philosophy''. 

In 1998, Professor Valchev got a doctoral degree at the Center for Cultural Studies. Since December 2015, he has been the deputy rector of Sofia University for educational activities. Professor Georgi Valchev said that during the four years of his term as rector, Sofia University should become much more visible, become part of the European educational space and defend the main priorities and identity of Bulgaria.
