Foreign Minister Mariya Gabriel has called for restraint when commenting on Bulgaria's chances of entering Schengen after the parliamentary elections held in the Netherlands.

"Let a government be formed, I am not committed to a Schengen date," she told BNT.

"The arguments are political, economic, there are clear facts. Bulgaria is certainly guarding the external border of the EU. We are not praying for anything, Bulgaria defends its position and its place," explained the minister.

Regarding the ship hijacked by the Yemeni Houthis with Bulgarian captains on board, Gabriel stated: "From day one we have information. At this stage, the only thing I can say, because in such cases it is important to maintain discretion, is that we are in the necessary contact and coordination with the relevant institutions. We will do everything possible for our compatriots to be back in Bulgaria in good health".
