Bulgarian Energy Minister Rumen Radev has described the media reports about increased background radiation in Bulgaria as "fake news". According to him, the normal background radiation in the country is between 0.07 and 0.3 microsieverts per hour, and for averaged 24 hours of observations, we are definitely in this interval.

A technical failure of the automatic gamma-background radiation monitoring station in the region of Gighera, Dolj Country, Romania, which occurred as a result of the extreme weather conditions in Romania, led to an alarm signal in the environmental radioactivity monitoring system on the evening of 25 November.

Romania's environment ministry spokesperson Mihai Dragan commented to BTA that the warning system would be activated if there was an increase in radiation in his country.

Meanwhile, the Kozloduy NPP informed that normal values typical of the natural gamma background radiation in the region were also recorded at the controlled points from the site of the Kozloduy NPP, and in the 100-kilometer zone around the plant on Bulgarian territory.
