Bulgaria is launching a project to improve security in the border area between Bulgaria and Turkey under the Interreg-IPA Bulgaria-Turkey Cross-Border Programme.

The project is worth more than €1.7 million. It aims to strengthen the national systems for combating irregular migration through cooperation and solidarity. The project involves the regional police directorates of Bourgas, Haskovo and Yambol in Bulgaria and the police directorates of the Turkish regions of Edirne and Karklareli.

Funds from the project will be used to buy all-terrain vehicles and vans and to train nearly 200 officers, reports BNR correspondent Daniela Kostadinova.
