The state laboratory for pesticide control at the "Kapitan Andreevo" border checkpoint on the border with Turkey will be operational in early 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture has reported.

After the removal of the private laboratory, which had monopoly over the control of imported fruits and vegetables for more than 10 years, all samples are still being transported and tested in Sofia, which delays the process. The ministry also said that 500 trucks are being checked per day. In response to a journalist's question about the possibility of the court returning the private laboratory, the Minister of Agriculture Kiril Vatev said that "the state is the one to stand" at the border.
