Four newborns on New Year's Eve in Sofia

A girl is the first baby born in Sofia in 2024. She was delivered at the University Maternity Hospital "Maichin Dom", Dr Emil Garchev, the obstetrician-gynaecologist on duty at the maternity ward, told BNR. He added that a total of four children were born in the capital during the festive night. 

Families will receive a one-off allowance of 192 euro for the birth of a first child in 2024, 460 euro for a second child, 230 euro for a third child and 153 euro for the birth of a fourth child and each subsequent child under the Family Allowances for Children Act.

An additional monthly benefit of EUR 51 is paid for a child with a permanent disability of 50% or more up to the age of 18.
