Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel expressed her gratitude to the Spanish EU Presidency for the excellent cooperation on the accession of Bulgaria to the Schengen Area.

In a Facebook post, she noted that "Protect, Strengthen, Prepare" is the motto under which Belgium will chair the Council of the European Union for the next six months, starting today. She welcomed its six key themes - protecting the rule of law and democracy, promoting competitiveness, a fair green transition, strengthening the social and health agenda, protecting citizens and borders, and Europe in a global world.

"I look forward to working with you and wish you a successful presidency," concluded Maria Gabriel.
