Orange weather warning for heavy snow and poor weather conditions in the mountains

An orange weather warning for heavy snow, drifts and black ice is in place in 14 regions of Western, Northern and Southern Bulgaria, for the rest of the country, the weather alert is yellow. The snow cover in the areas with adverse weather conditions will reach 10-30 cms.

In the Northern and Western parts of the country the rain will turn to snow and a snow cover will begin to form. In the Balkan foreland and the Rila and the Rhodope mountain areas, where there will be significant snowfall, the snow cover will reach 25-30 cms.

Conditions for tourism in the mountains are not good, nevertheless the facilities there are functioning, the Mountain Rescue Service has announced. There is diminished visibility and the snowfall continues in the upper mountain reaches, temperatures range from minus 4° to 1-2° C.
