More than 20 women were killed by men in Bulgaria last year, and nearly 1,400 cases of domestic violence were registered. The findings were unveiled during a conference dedicated to the fight against domestic violence. Deputy Minister of Justice, Georgi Nikolov, characterized domestic violence as a "monstrous phenomenon" and emphasized the pivotal role of prevention.

"While institutions are making strides in improvement, I am steadfast in my belief that the key to eliminating domestic violence lies in prioritizing prevention. This involves acting proactively, addressing the precursors that may lead potential perpetrators to commit acts of domestic violence, and understanding the underlying factors contributing to such incidents," stated the deputy minister.
