PM Nikolai Denkov unveils farmers' assistance measures this Sunday

Prime Minister Nikolai Denkov has announced that he will convene a meeting with farmers' representatives on Sunday in response to their ultimatum to start protest actions if their demands for state subsidies are not addressed.

"The state is looking for an option to provide financial support to farmers in the wake of EU-wide farmers' protests," the prime minister told Parliament. He said that an extra 500 million leva (255,8 million euro) had been earmarked for the sector in this year's budget.

According to Nikolai Denkov, some of the farmers' concerns are justified, which is why the EU is considering dropping some of the green farming requirements.

The prime minister promised to present the government's proposed measures for the year at the next meeting with farmers.
