EUR 1 million worth of drugs seized by customs officers

Officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint have seized marijuana and cocaine worth BGN 1 751 280 ( close to EUR 1 million) during an inspection of a van leaving the country.

On 10 February, during an extensive customs inspection of a Bulgarian-registered van driven by a Bulgarian national, customs officers discovered 72 packages containing a dry green herbal mass and three packages containing a white powdery substance. Subsequent analysis revealed that the packages contained marijuana and cocaine. The total gross weight of the marijuana was 47.920 kg with a street value of BGN 1.150.080 (EUR 575.000) and the cocaine weighed 3.340 kg with a street value of BGN 601.200 (EUR 300.600).

Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
