A few hours after the news of Alexei Navalny's death, citizens organized a protest in front of the Russian embassy in Sofia. The call to hold the protest at 6:30 p.m. was made on Facebook by Nikolay Nenchev, former chairman of the Bulgarian Agricultural National Union and Minister of Defense in Borissov's second cabinet.

Vlogger Asen Genov also called on his profile: "Let's honour Navalny with silence in front of the doors of the Russian Embassy in Sofia."

Earlier in the day, reports appeared that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in the penal colony where he was serving a 19-year sentence.
