Non-governmental organizations related to tourism, nature preservation and the fishing sector demanded the withdrawal of the Bill on Renewable Energy in Maritime Spaces, which regulates the construction of wind power plants in the Black Sea. The organizations said that if the document is not withdrawn, they are ready for protest actions.

The draft law envisages that the facilities will be installed in the Shabla region and according to its proponents, this would contribute to the development of the region, the creation of new jobs and investments in infrastructure. In Shabla, local people fear that this would destroy the pristine nature of the region, which attracts many tourists from all over the world. At an extraordinary meeting, on February 19, the municipal councilors of Shabla adopted a declaration against the bill for the construction of wind farms in the Black Sea and sent it to institutions and political parties.

At the beginning of the month, the local authorities in Balchik called against the building of wind power plants in the Black Sea, Kavarna also rejected the idea.
