"The electricity system is currently in a very good condition, with sufficient capacity and available options for balancing," said outgoing Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov during his visit to Kozloduy NPP. He stressed that there were no problems with the licensing of Westinghouse fuel for use at Kozloduy NPP, BTA reported.

Valentin Nikolov, the plant's executive director, confirmed that the project was proceeding as planned. "We expect the fuel to arrive at the site... During our scheduled annual maintenance, we will introduce the first batch of Westinghouse fuel to diversify our fuel elements".

The Westinghouse fuel, which has not yet been licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, is expected in April. In May, Unit 5 of the plant will be shut down and loaded for the first time with Westinghouse fuel, which will be combined with the Russian fuel currently in use.
