At the Bulgarian church St. George in Edirne, Vice President Iliana Iotova will inaugurate a bas-relief of Father Alexander Cikirik today.

At 10.30 AM local time (9.30 AM Bulgarian time) a memorial service will be held in honour of Father Cikiri, who passed away one year ago. The bas-relief is by sculptor Kamen Starchev.

Father Alexander Cikirik served at the Bulgarian church St. George in Edirne for many years, was a member of the Union of Thracian Associations in Bulgaria and a staunch champion of the preservation and consolidation of Bulgarian traditions. With his work he has contributed to the relations of good neighbourhood between Bulgaria and Turkey. In February, 2023, President Rumen Radev bestowed the order of Saints Cyril and Methodius, first degree on Father Cikirik, for his contribution to the preservation of Bulgaria’s cultural and historical heritage.
