Bulgaria could join the eurozone in 2025, Eurogroup chief Paschal Donohoe said during a visit to Sofia. In an interview with BNR's Marta Mladenova, he added that he hoped the country would continue to pursue sound fiscal policies.

"The main challenge remains inflation. I believe Bulgaria will certainly join in soon. But inflation has to be contained. Public finances must be kept in good shape. Security is needed," the financier recommended.

Asked if he had planned to run for the post of head of the International Monetary Fund, he said that there had been some speculation in case Kristalina Georgieva decided not to run for a second term. "But she decided to seek support for a second term and she got it unanimously from Europe, including from me," Donohoe stressed.
